Blades Welcome Hitmen and Giants

November 24, 2011 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

It's a busy weekend for the Saskatoon Blades as they play host to a pair of teams this Friday and Saturday night. The Hitmen are in Saskatoon tomorrow, while Vancouver plays here Saturday.

The Blades are in the middle of their best streak of the season as they are winners of 8 straight games. The team is coming off a big win in a big test against the Medicine Hat Tigers from Tuesday night.

The Blades led the game 3-1 before having the Tigers storm back in the third. But, the Blades buckled down in the shootout and got goals from Jake Trask and Matej Stransky to earn the two points.

That win for Saskatoon also ties the franchise mark for consecutive wins at home to start the season....a 10-0 mark that matches the 1975 Blades.

The game against the Hitmen marks the third meeting of the season between the teams already this year. Saskatoon has won both games, a 4-1 win at home on November 2nd and a 6-5 victory in Calgary this past Sunday.

The meeting with the Giants is the first and only one of the season.

Both games kick off at 7:05 PM from the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon. Great tickets are still available so don't hesitate to call our office at 975-8844!

Blades Notes

- The two games this weekend are also HUGE in regards to announcements and promotions. Tomorrow against Calgary, the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup Committee will be unveiling ticket package pricing and ticket availability dates for the event. The announcement will happen in the form of a press conference in the first intermission. So make sure you are in the building to hear the news first! As season ticket holders have been assured all along, they will have the first chance at seats and have the ability to keep their same seat for the MasterCard Memorial Cup next season.

- As a special treat for both games this weekend, the actual Memorial Cup trophy will be in the building! Fans will have a chance to get their photo taken with the trophy for free. The military will also be honoured prior to the game on Friday night, continuing with the history of the Memorial Cup.

- The Blades are also once again pleased to be taking part in the CJWW's Secret Santa campaign. To raise awareness for the cause, the Blades are encouraging all fans to bring an unwrapped toy to the game on Friday night against Calgary. The toys gathered will be donated to Saskatoon's less fortunate families to ensure everyone has a bright and cheerful holiday season!

- On Saturday against Vancouver, the Blades will once again be having the Memorial Cup on site for the game. Fans will have a chance to look at the trophy and get a free photo with it. That night is also extra special as it marks Special Edition Jersey and Prostate Cancer Awareness Night! To mark the occasion, the Blades will be unveiling a brand new vintage Saskatoon Quakers jersey! The team will wear it for the game.

- Fans have a chance at winning one of the jerseys in a special draw that has already started! In order to get your name in, visit www.saskatoonblades.com and fill out the online entry form. One lucky winner will walk away with a team autographed Quakers jersey!

- The night will also be used to raise awareness for Prostate Cancer. Money from the night's jersey auction will go towards the Les and Irene Dube Urology Centre of Health.

- As a special and unique donation promotion, fans are also encouraged to bring water bottles full of change to Saturday's game. They can be used as noise makers, then dropped off at the doors as a way of donation on your way out of the building!

- The Saskatoon Blades are now ranked 4th overall in the CHL. According to the new BMO MasterCard rankings released yesterday, the Blades moved from 6th to 4th. Saskatoon is also the highest ranked WHL team.

- The Saskatoon Blades team store also has two featured items for the games this weekend. They are Saskatoon Blades t-shirts! Make sure you stop by the store to check out all the great items on sale. A ton of great gift ideas too!

- With so many exciting things planned for this weekend, you won't want to miss the action! Not only are there great events taking place and great promotions on hand, the Saskatoon Blades are on a streak that hasn't been seen in quite some time!
