
Blades Split Series With Generals After 4-2 Loss

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (34-20-12) were defeated by the Greensboro Generals (36-21-9) 4-2 in front of 5,783 at TECO Arena on Tuesday night. Greensboro forward Sam Ftorek notched the game winning goal in the third period to lift the Generals. The Everblades held on to sole possession of third place in the ECHL's Southeast Division despite falling to the Generals.
The Generals struck first and made it 1-0 after Greensboro defenseman Kurtis Drummond tucked home a Sam Ftorek rebound shot at the 8:24 mark of the first period.
The Everblades responded in the second period when forward Brent McDonald extended his ECHL leading goal scoring streak to six games after chipping a rebound past Generals netminder Daniel Barthiaume at the 3:43 mark to make it 1-1. Recently reassigned forward Marty Johnston and defenseman Kyle Kos picked up the assists on McDonald's 9th tally of the year.
Greensboro then took a 2-1 lead after Mike Bayrack slipped a one time pass from teammate Bryan Richardson into the net on the power play at the 9:25 mark of the third period.
The Everblades responded just :27 seconds into the third period and tied the game at 2-2 after forward Brent McDonald took a pass from Kevin Brown, broke in alone and slipped the puck into the net. However, the Generals got the game winning goal after Sam Ftorek snapped a shot off the inside post and into the net at the 14:57 mark of the third period. Ftorek later added an empty net goal to seal the 4-2 Generals victory.
Florida goaltender Brian Leitza (2-2-2) stopped 22 of 25 shots he faced while Greensboro netminder Daniel Berthiaume (26-14-5) stopped 32 of 34 shots he faced. The Everblades were 0 for 3 on the power play while the Generals were 1 for 1.
The Blades hit the road this weekend and take on the Columbia Inferno on Thursday night at 7:05 PM. Florida then travels to South Carolina to battle the Stingrays on Friday and Saturday night in Charleston, SC at 7:30 PM.
