San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - Bruce Watson, who signed with the San Diego Gulls Friday, has been named West Coast Hockey League Player of the Week.

Watson earns the honors after his six-point performance in two games against the Anchorage Aces last weekend. In his first game with the Gulls, he netted two goals in a 4-3 San Diego shootout loss. The next night, Watson came back with four points (2g, 2a), including the game-winner, in the Gulls' 4-3 triumph.

The Gulls claimed Watson, 26, off waivers Thursday and added him to the roster just in time for Friday's game. The 6-foot-2-inch, 227-pounder from Pembroke, Ontario played one game with the Fresno Falcons before being released.

Watson put up career highs in goals (20), assists (21) and points (41) with the Atlantic Coast Hockey League's Cape Fear Fire Antz this season, before moving to the WCHL. Upon leaving Cape Fear, he was second in the ACHL with 268 penalty minutes. Watson ranked fourth in the East Coast Hockey League with 314 penalty minutes in 2001-02 and fourth in the United Hockey League with 401 penalty minutes in 2000-01.

San Diego has now racked up weekly awards 12 times in 2002-03.
