Blades Slide Past Cougars 3-2
November 14, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades won their ninth consecutive home game on Saturday night with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Prince George Cougars.
Derek Hulak (Saskatoon, SK), Charles Inglis (Saskatoon, SK), and Josh Nicholls (Tsawwassen, BC) scored for the Bridge City Bunch, who has now picked up points in their eleven straight games.
Following a scoreless first period, Hulak put the Blades on the board first with his 11th of the season. The Blades' captain took a pass from Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC) in front of the Cougars' net, going forehand to backhand to deke out netminder Hudson Stremmel before going upstairs just 22 seconds into the period.
The Cougars evened the score just over a minute later when Parker Stanfield beat Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) glove side from the faceoff circle.
The hometown squad regained the lead at the 12:52 mark of the middle frame, while on the man advantage, on Inglis' 6th of the season. The second-year Blade took a feed from Jyri Niemi (Hameenkyro, Finland) at the right point and saw his wrist shot get past a screened Stremmel.
The Blades took a two-goal lead before the second period was out as Nicholls picked up his 3rd of the season. The sophomore forward streaked down the left wing, put on the breaks, and from the faceoff dot targeted a wrist shot to the back of the net.
Nick Buonassisi brought the Cougars to within one with a wrap-around goal ten minutes into the third period but it was as close as the Cougars would get.
Morrison turned aside 24 of 26 shots sent his way in the Blades' net. Stremmel was the busier of the two making 39 saves in defeat.
Final score Saskatoon 3, Prince George 2.
The Blades are next in action this coming Friday with a visit to the Moose Jaw Warriors. Game time is 7:00 pm. The game can be heard live on 92.9 The Bull with Les Lazaruk. The game is also available for purchase on WHL WebTV.
The next action at Credit Union Centre for the Blades is Friday, November 27th when the Lethbridge Hurricanes are in town. Game time is 7:05 pm. Tickets are available online at ticketmaster.ca, by calling 938-7800, or by visiting any Ticketmaster outlet
