Tonight is Girls Rock Night! presented by Konica Minolta and Hillberg & Berk. It's also the Blades' "Stick it to cancer game" in which the players will be using custom designed sticks with pink logos on them. The game used sticks will be available through a silent auction during the game, the extras will be available next week through an online auction, and all proceeds will be going towards local cancer charities.
Tonight... The Blades are back on home ice after a 3-in-3 road trip through central Alberta last weekend. It's meeting number 1 on the season between the Blades and ICE. The top 2 picks in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, Peyton Krebs and Kirby Dach, who are also 'A' ranked prospects for the upcoming 2019 NHL Draft are set to faceoff for the first time this season. Both Dach (27pts) and Krebs (19pts) lead their respective teams in scoring. Both clubs are coming off a victory and looking to begin a win streak.
The last game... Nolan Maier made 38 saves on Sunday in Calgary as the Blades downed the Hitmen 5-3. Kirby Dach had 2G-1A in the win while Max Gerlach had 3 assists. Meanwhile, the Kootenay ICE are coming off their 1st road win of the season, a 2-1 shootout victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday. Jesse Makaj made 41 saves for his 1st career win in the WHL.
Head to head... Saskatoon took the season series last year 3-1. The Blades also have an advantage in the standings (7 points) and goal differential with a +4 while the ICE are -14. However, Kootenay does hold an advantage on special teams with a combined success rate of 104.7% while the Blades' combined percentage is 99.9%. The ICE are 0-6 at SaskTel Centre over the past three seasons, their last win over the Blades in Saskatoon was back on Feb. 28th, 2014.
Who's hot...'01 F Kirby Dach is leading the Blades with 27pts in 16GP this season tied for 4th in overall league scoring. '01 G Nolan Maierhas faced 162 shots in his last 4 starts while allowing just 11 goals in that span which includes 2 overtimes.
