April 12, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (3-1) defeated the Roanoke Express (1-3) 3-2 in double overtime in front of 4,558 at TECO Arena on Monday night. Florida won the series three games to one with the victory and will move on to take on either the Columbia Inferno or the South Carolina Stingrays in the Southern Division Finals. South Carolina holds a 2-1 series advantage and the two teams will meet on Tuesday night in Charleston, SC and if necessary on Wednesday night in Columbia, SC.
Early in the second overtime, it was Damian Surma who smacked a bouncing puck past goaltender Jason Wolfe at the 2:29 mark to give the Everblades the double overtime and series clinching victory.
Florida got on the scoreboard in the first period tonight when John McNabb deflected a Matt Pagnutti shot from the point into the net on the powerplay to give Florida a 1-0 lead. Roanoke responded at the 7:57 mark when Kevin Bergin streaked down the left wing and beat Robb Zepp on the stick side to even the score at one after one period.
In the second period the Everblades regained the lead when Tom Buckley, from the corner, banked the puck in off a Roanoke defenseman at the 14:33 mark. However, Roanoke tied the score at two again when Bryan Perez flipped the puck over Zepp with four seconds remaining in the period and the teams would remain tied until the second overtime.
Florida goaltender Rob Zepp (2-0) stopped 32 of 34 shots and picked up his second postseason victory. Roanoke netminder Jason Wolfe (1-1) stopped 56 of 59 shots. Florida finished 2 for 8 on the power play while Roanoke went 1 for 8.
