
Blades get stung 3-2 by Stingrays

Estero, FL - The Florida Everblades and the South Carolina Stingrays finished up a three-game set on Halloween night after splitting the first two games of the series. The Stingrays ended up winning the rubber match 3-2. Everblades center Rob Hennigar scored a goal and added to his team lead in points, which now totals eight. Goaltender Mike Morrison made 19 saves in the loss.
The Stingrays stung first, scoring at 10:52 into the first stanza. Forward Gregg Johnson tallied his second goal of the season, giving the Stingrays the 1-0 lead. Everblades right winger Steve McJannet and Stingrays defensemen Joe Finley both received five-minute minors for fighting. With 5:20 left in the period, the Blades evened the score at 1-1 as Rob Hennigar buried his second goal of the season. The Everblades out shot the Stingrays 12-5 in the first period.
In the second period, South Carolina forward Rob Ricci chipped in his fourth goal of the season at 9:51 giving the Stingrays a 2-1 lead. The Everblades had the slight edge in shots 14-9 over South Carolina.
Both teams had multiple scoring chances in the final stanza. Mike Morrison kept the Blades in the game with exceptional saves early on. For the second straight night the Stingrays had a goal waved off due to the puck being played by a high stick. The Stingrays lead was extended to two after Matt Fornataro scored on a penalty shot at 17:22 making the score 3-1. Right winger Ernie Hartlieb kept the score close, scoring in his third consecutive game with 49 seconds left. The Everblades had scoring chances within the final minute of play but couldn't convert losing the game 3-2.
Tune into the Florida Everblades on FOX Sports 1200/1460AM Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 as they travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers. The Everblades finish up the road trip on Friday as they take on the Gwinnett Gladiators.
