Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades are proud to announce that their fans helped raised $28,825 for donation to five different cancer charities during the team's first "Pink in the Rink" jersey auction!
On March 6 the Everblades hosted their inaugural "Pink in the Rink Night" to help raise awareness and money for cancer research. The Everblades players wore special themed "Pink in the Rink" jerseys that were auctioned off live after the game with the net proceeds benefiting three local SW Florida charities and two national charities.
The money raised by the 25 jerseys worn by the Everblades' players benefited the Cancer Alliance of Naples, Cape Coral Relay for Life, Barbara's Friends, The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Susan G. Komen For the Cure fund.
"I think this just goes to show why Everblades fans are the best in the league." Everblades President Craig Brush said. "Even during this economic downturn, they still find a way to help out their fellow Southwest Floridians that are battling cancer. It pleases me to know that our fans can be this generous for such a worthy cause."
Everblades forward Ernie Hartlieb, who also donated his hair to Locks of Love after the game, saw his jersey raise the most at $2,800. Rounding out the top five jerseys were David Leggio ($2,600), Kevin Baker & Mark Lee ($2,100 each), and Mathieu Roy ($2,000).
Since their inception, the Everblades have now donated over $600,000 to local charities through several community outreach programs including the charity jersey auctions.
