
Blades Complete 4th Seven Game Series Sweep In Franchise History

The Saskatoon Blades defeated the Red Deer Rebels at the Enmax Centrium Thursday night and claimed the Eastern Conference Quarter-Final series in a 4 game sweep.
Despite a combined total of 25 shots in the 1st period the game remained scoreless in the opening frame. Red Deer's Adam Kambeitz opened the scoring with his first career post-season goal shorthanded 1:47 into the 2nd period to give the hometown Rebels a 1-0 lead. Stefan Elliott scored his 1st of the night and 2nd of the series on the man advantage at 8:06 from Marek Viedensky and Josh Nicholls to tie the game at 1-1. Jeremy Boyer gave the Bridge City Bunch the lead for the first time in the game with his first career post-season goal at 13:11. Dalton Thrower and Curt Gogol picked up assists on the play.
Curtis Hamilton notched his 2nd goal of the series from Walker Wintoneak 4:23 into the final frame to extend the Blades lead to 3-1. Marek Viedensky increased the Blades lead to 4-1 before the mid-way point of the period by undressing netminder Kraymer Barnstable at 8:15. Red Deer's Brett Ferguson cut the Blades lead in half, from Cullen Morin and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, on the man advantage at 16:22. Gaelan Patterson scored the open net goal with 1:18 left in regulation to give the Saskatoon Blades a 5-2 victory.
Netminder Steven Stanford made 31 saves for the win while the Rebels Kraymer Barnstable faced a total of 36 shots in the loss.
The Blades were 1/4 on the power play and 7/8 on the penalty kill.
The victory marks the 4th time in Franchise history that the Blades have swept their opponent in a best of seven series. Blades netminder Steven Stanford only allowed 3 goals the entire series and is ranked #1 in the WHL in post-season play.
