St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-The Blacksnakes could not take advantage of a solid start by Mark Nussbeck and the defense committed six errors in a 7-3 loss in Sioux Falls. The team now heads to St. Paul, MN for a four-game series with the Saints beginning Monday evening.

Sioux Falls struck first on a Chad Hermansen solo home run in the first off Nussbeck, but the 'Snakes would take the lead in the second. With one out, Cody Nowlin singled and Terrell Merriman was hit by a pitch. Ben Thomas and Denver Kitch each would come through with run-scoring singles and the 'Snakes were up 2-1.

The score would stay 2-1 as Nussbeck and Sioux Falls' Tony Cogan would duel until the fifth when the 'Snakes defense would let them down. A couple of errors by St. Joe would lead to a pair of unearned runs and Sioux Falls would jump back ahead, 3-2.

In the sixth, another Blacksnakes error led to a couple more runs on a Hermansen two-run single and the deficit was 5-2. In the seventh and eighth, the defense would commit a combined three errors as the Canaries plated a couple more runs to open up the lead.

St. Joe's final run would score in the eighth on Wil Quintana's third home run is as many games, but it would not be enough as the 'Snakes dropped two of three in Sioux Falls. The offense was limited to just seven hits after pounding out 23 over the first two games.

Nussbeck (0-1) took a tough defeat, allowing three runs-just one earned-over five innings. He struck out eight. Tony Cogan (1-0) earned the win for Sioux Falls.

The 'Snakes now take to the road and continue the trip to St. Paul for four games with the St. Paul Saints. RHP Andrew Edwards will makes his St. Joe debut tomorrow night against right-hander T. J. Stanton. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and our Heartland Health Pre-Game Show at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com will begin at 6:45pm.
