
American Association Players of the Week announced

DURHAM, NC -- St. Paul 1B Brian Becker and Lincoln RHP Jerrod Fuell were chosen by SportsTicker, the American Association's official statistician, as Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 7-14.
Becker hit a tremendous .769 (10-for-13) with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI, and 2 doubles as St. Paul is off to a 2-1 start. He is currently first in the league in hits and batting average, second in doubles, and third in slugging percentage.
Becker, 31, is in his 11th season of professional baseball. He was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in June of 1996. Brian spent six years in the Devil Rays organization, reaching as high as Double AA Orlando, before signing with Fargo-Moorhead of the Northern League for the 2002 season. He then played two seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization before joining the Nashua Pride in 2005. There he hit .299 with 41 home runs and 110 RBI.
Fuell, a 25-year-old Tucson, Arizona native, has appeared in three games for the Saltdogs. He has worked three innings allowing no earned runs, striking out four, and collecting two saves. Jerrod is currently second in the league in saves.
Fuell was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 10th round of the 1999 draft. He spent four years in the Tigers organization before being traded to the Florida Marlins in January of 2003. He played three seasons in the Marlins organization reaching as high as Triple AAA Albuquerque.
