May 15, 2006 - American Association (AA)
Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
The Shreveport Sports will have their home opener of the 2006 season Tuesday at Fair Grounds Field against the Lincoln Saltdogs. Game time will be 7:05 pm.
The Sports, who are 2-1 in home openers since becoming a member of independent baseball, went 1-2 in the opening weekend on the road at Fort Worth. In those opening three games, the Sports had two home runs from first baseman Justin Humphries and a win by Bert Snow, who pitched for Shreveport last season.
Lincoln, a former entry in the Northern League, is one of five teams in the Northern Division of the American Association this season. The Saltdogs swept Pensacola in a four-game series at Pensacola over the weekend, getting off to their best start in franchise history.
The Sports will send righthander Derek Cunningham (0-1) to the mound in the home opener while Lincoln will counter with lefthander Jeff Blitstein (0-0), making his first start.
This will begin a six-game homestand for the Sports with Lincoln here through Thursday and then Pensacola will come in for a three-game series Friday through Sunday.
Opening night at Fair Grounds Field will feature a fly over by a B-52 from Barksdale Air Force Base along with a "Free Truck Tuesday", sponsored by Dodge. After the game, Dodge will also sponsor a Fireworks celebration.
