TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons face the Norfolk Tides in game two of a four-game series from Harbor Park (7:15 p.m.) The Herd won the series opener last night with an 11-6 decision. The Bisons are now 5-2 in their last seven road games and 12-13 away from Coca-Cola Field this year. Tonight's contest is game two of an eight-game roadtrip that includes four in Durham.
FRIENDLY WATERS: The Bisons have enjoyed making port at Harbor Park. The Bisons have lost just one of 12 series (2004, 2-3) played in Norfolk and have seven wins and four splits in 12 seasons. In 49 games at Harbor Park, the Bisons have an amazing .673 winning percentage (33-16).
TURN IT UP: INF JUSTIN TURNER went 3-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk in his first game against his former teammates. Turner was designated for assignment by Baltimore on May 21 after playing 23 games with Norfolk to begin the season. Turner has hit in all seven games he's played with the Bisons, averaging .393 (11-28) with four RBI and four runs scored.
DESIGNATED TO HIT: INF MIKE JACOBS went 2-4 last night and is now hitting .400 (12-30) with two homers and eight RBI in his eight starts as the Bisons' designated hitter. His success has been matched by his teammates as Bisons' DHs have averaged .292 (38-130) with eight home runs and 28RBI in the 33 games they've been used.
DON'T MESS WITH HESS: INF MIKE HESSMAN added to his insane RBI total with his 56th of the season last night. Hessman's lead over Double-A Lexington's INF Kody Hinze is now three for the most RBI in baseball. Hessman also leads the International League in home runs (18), extra-base hits (34), total bases (130) and runs scored (40).
HIT MACHINE: Despite going hitless last night, OF JESUS FELICIANO still leads all International League hitters with his .377 batting average. Feliciano is also tied in the IL for most hits (66) and second in on-base percentage (.422).
ROSTER MOVE: INF RUBEN TEJADA was recalled to the Mets just prior to yesterday's game. Tejada hit .294 (50-170) with one home run and 11RBI in 51 games with the Herd. He went 1-4 with a double in the Mets win last night.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (28-27) defeated the Marlins last night, 4-3. Former Bisons RHP R.A. DICKEY improved to 3-0 on the season with 6.1 innings of three-run ball. The knuckleballer even chipped in two hits and an RBI at the plate. RHP FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ worked a scoreless ninth inning for his 11th save. New York hosts the Marlins again today at 4:10 p.m.
