Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons open up a seven-game road trip with the first of a three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium (6:05 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a 2-6 homestand. Buffalo went 3-5 on their first roadtrip of the season, an eight-game stretch in Norfolk and Richmond, April 3-10. On the mound tonight is LHP Aaron Laffey. The southpaw dominated over eight innings on Monday to earn a 7-2 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens. The PawSox will counter tonight with RHP Chris Smith.
NO JOKE: LHP Aaron Laffey was at his best on Monday night. The southpaw gave up just one hit over his first seven innings against Toledo before allowing a two-run homer in the eighth inning. All told, he allowed just three hits in eight innings and struck out six to improve to 2-1 on the year. In his Bisons career, Laffey is 11-4 with a 3.23ERA in 19 games.
ONE FOR ME, DADDY: Infielder Andy Gonzalez left the Bisons this past week to travel to Puerto Rico for the birth of his first child. Last night, in his first game back, he blasted his third home run of the season. The proud parent of daughter, Danaelis, now leads the Bisons with 10RBI and a .711 slugging percentage. Gonzalez has reached base safely in all 12 games he's played with the team, and also leads Buffalo with a .342 batting average and a .444 on-base percentage (2nd in IL).
UN-COOPED: Outfielder Jason Cooper drove in two more runs last night and continues his assault on the Bisons record books. His double was the 63rd of his Bisons career, moving him past Tom Prince and even with John Wehner for the 4th most in the Modern Era (Bill Selby, 90). Cooper now has 184RBI, which are 5th most in the Modern Era. Only three players have collected 200RBI in a Bisons' uniform in the Modern Era (Selby, 245, Jeff Manto 207, Russell Branyan, 202).
FIRST HOMER: Infielder Ryan Mulhern collected his first homerun of the season last night. The Bisons 2007 Most Valuable Player finished last year with a team-high 16 blasts. Mulhern has shown great patience this year. He leads the team with 10 walks and is second with a .377 on-base percentage.
