Norfolk Tides News Release
Garrett Olson hurled seven strong innings, but four Durham pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Bulls knocked off the Tides 2-0 in front of 10,125 fans at Harbor Park Saturday night.
For the third straight outing Olson pitched extremely well, but for the first time this year he suffered a losing decision. The 24-year-old southpaw allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits in 7.0 innings of work, and he struck out seven without walking a batter.
Over his last three starts, Olson is 1-1 with a 1.47 ERA (3-ER, 17.1-IP), and he has walked one while striking out 20.
Durham scored the only run they needed off Olson in the second inning, when Chris Richard led off with an infield single and eventually scored on an error by Scott Moore. The Bulls added their second run in the next inning on an RBI single by Reid Brignac.
Bulls starter Ben Hendrickson (1-1) pitched in and out of trouble all night, as he picked up his first victory of the year despite issuing five walks in 5.0 innings.
Dale Thayer worked around a two-out walk in the 9th inning to pick up his third save of the year.
Tike Redman collected two of Norfolk's four hits to lead the offense, while Ryan Bukvich and Esteban Yan each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
Norfolk continues their three-game set with the Bulls on Sunday afternoon, with Jon Leicester (0-1, 2.92) scheduled to take the mound against right-hander Jae Kuk Ryu (0-2, 6.23). First pitch from Harbor Park is slated for 1:15.
