
Braves slay Knights

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Charlotte Knights 3-1 Saturday at The Diamond. Clint Sammons three-run homer in the fourth pushed the Braves two and a half games ahead of the second place Knights in the South Division.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Jerry Owens doubled, stole third, and scored on a Jason Bourgeois ground out. The Braves responded in the home half with back to back singles by Scott Thorman and Reggie Taylor prior to Sammons home run.
Jonathon Rouwenhorst earned the win. Zach Schreiber collected a save. Tomo Ohka tossed a complete game for Charlotte, just the second in the International League this season, but took the loss. Phil Stockman retired all seven Knights he faced, striking out three. Taylor, Sammons, and Brent Lillibridge had two hits each for Richmond. Jerry Ownes had two hits for Charlotte.
The Braves and Knights continue the series Sunday at 2 PM at The Diamond. Charlie Morton is slated to pitch for the Braves against Charlie Haeger.
