***The Bisons are 1.5 games behind the Richmond Braves in the International League Wildcard Race. Both teams have nine games left to play***
TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon the Buffalo Bisons take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in the final game of a two-game set from Dunn Tire Park (1:05 p.m.). Buffalo is 3-1 on their final homestand of the regular season (7 games) after last night's 6-1 win. On the hill today will be LHP Jason Stanford. The southpaw is making his first start with the team since June 9. The Yankees will counter with LHP Kei Igawa.
IL BATTING RACE: Rochester's Jose Morales leads the IL batting race with a .321 average -two points ahead of Buffalo's Ben Francisco (.319). The last Bison to win a batting championship was Mark Ryal, who hit .334 in 1990 in the American Association.
SEVEN-YEAR STANNY: LHP Jason Stanford is the only player in the Modern Era to pitch for the Bisons in seven consecutive seasons. After a two month stint with Cleveland (June 14-August 14), the lefty made three relief outings with the Herd before today's start. With 281 career Bisons strikeouts, Stanford is tied with Dorn Taylor for 2nd most in the Modern Era (Rick Reed, 290). Stanford is also 5th in wins (24) and 4th in innings pitched (369.0).
BY ANY OTHER NAME: Catcher Mike Rose has homered in consecutive games. Last night's tape-measure blast landed in the parking lot beyond the right-centerfield wall. Since August 9, Rose has hit .341 (16-47) with three doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and six runs scored in 13 games. The stretch has raised his average 18 points to .257.
SUPER JOE: The Bisons are getting great run production out of their lead-off spot. Joe Inglett has driven in 11 runs in his last seven games and 20 in his last 17 games. His 49RBI on the year are T3rd most on the Bisons (Ryan Mulhern, 74). Inglett is also T1st on the team with seven triples (Jason Cooper).
HOT BAT: Andy Marte has driven in nine runs in his last five games. Since August 8, the third baseman has hit .333 (21-63) with three home runs and 13RBI in 17 games. Marte is now 2nd on the team with 15 homers (Ryan Mulhern, 16).
