
Toledo Clinches West with Win Over Indy

INDIANAPOLIS -- Right-hander Virgil Vasquez allowed just one run over seven innings and Toledo captured its third straight International League West Division crown with a 4-1 win over Indianapolis in front of 9,417 Sunday afternoon at Victory Field.
The Mud Hens improve to 78-56 overall and 35-32 on the road, while the Indians fall to 67-67 on the season and 36-29 at home. Monday will be the Tribe's 280th consecutive day with a record of .500 or better.
Richmond (72-61) continues to lead the International League's Wild Card race over Buffalo (72-62, 0.5 GB), Rochester (73-64, 1.0 GB) and Indianapolis (67-67, 5.5 GB).
Vasquez (7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO), who improves to 12-5 with the win, used just 106 pitches in his second straight gem against the Tribe. The performance follows up a two-hit, complete-game shutout on Tuesday at Fifth Third Field.
Three Mud Hen relievers -- RHP Jason Karnuth (0.2 IP, 2 H), LHP Macay McBride (0.1 IP) and RHP Aquilino Lopez (1.0 IP, 1 SO) -- combined for two scoreless frames after Vasquez departed. Karnuth and McBride were credited with holds, while Lopez notched his team-best 24th save of the campaign.
Toledo jumped on the scoreboard with a run in the second. LF Jason Perry led off with a single to right before 2B Henry Mateo put two runners in scoring position with a double to right. CF Andres Torres followed with a run-scoring single to make it 1-0.
The Mud Hens added a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth. C Andrew Graham came plateward on SS Erick Almonte's RBI single in the fourth, while Graham picked up an RBI single before scoring on Almonte's suicide squeeze in the sixth.
Indianapolis scored its only run of the contest in the sixth when C Milver Reyes smashed a lead-off single to right and eventually scored on RF Michael Ryan's sacrifice fly.
Toledo had five individuals -- DH Timo Perez (2-for-5), Torres (2-for-4, 1 RBI), Almonte (2-for-4, 1 RBI), Perry (2-for-4) and Graham (2-for-4) -- with two hits apiece, while Perry and Graham split the four runs.
RHP Bryan Bullington (5.1 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) slipped to 11-8 with the loss, while LF Nyjer Morgan (2-for-4) registered the Tribe's only multi-hit game.
Indianapolis continues its nine-day, 10-game homestand with a five-game series against Columbus. The Indians and Clippers will play a 6 p.m. doubleheader (two seven-inning contests) on Monday before squaring off in 7 p.m. single games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
