Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Ottawa Lynx in the third game of a four-game series from Lynx Stadium (1:05 p.m.). The Herd has won the first two games of the set with a pair of one-run victories. On the mound today will be LHP Aaron Laffey, who will be making his Triple-A debut. Laffey last pitched a week ago for Double-A Akron and took the loss after seven innings against Erie (season-high seven strikeouts). Ottawa will counter with RHP Heath Totten.
VS. OTTAWA: The Bisons are 5-1 against Ottawa this season. The Herd opened up the 2007 season against the Lynx in Buffalo, April 9-12, and won three of four games. Buffalo now has a 92-57 edge on Ottawa since 1998. That's the most wins the Herd has against any other team since rejoining the International League.
NO JOKING MATTER: LHP Aaron Laffey has gotten off to a great start in 2007. The southpaw won four consecutive starts, April 17-May 5, and is 4-1 with a 2.31ERA in six games with Double-A Akron. Last season, Laffey finished third in the Indians farm system with 12 wins and 153.2 innings of work between Single-A and Double-A.
ONE IS ENOUGH: After last night's comeback victory, the Bisons are 6-1 in one-run games this season and a perfect 2-0 in extra-inning games. The rally win also increased the Herd's record to 10-5 when their opponents score first.
TRIPLE CROWN: Ryan Mulhern leads the Bisons in all three triple crown categories. The slugger has a .331 average (8th in the International League), eight home runs (T3rd in IL) and 28RBI (1st in the IL). The slugger also leads the Herd in doubles (11-T3rd in the International League), extra-base hits (20, T1st in IL) and slugging percentage (.636, 2nd in IL).
ROSTER MOVE: The Cleveland Indians announced today that they have sold the contract of RHP Brian Sikorski to the Yakult Swallows of Japan's Central League. Sikorski was 0-1 with a 3.52ERA and 2 saves in 13 relief outings for Buffalo this year (15.1IP, 11H, 6ER, 7BB, 21K). The move freed up a roster spot for LHP Aaron Laffey's promotion from Akron today.
SPEED TRAP: Catcher Mike Rose is the International League's top catcher, having thrown out 65% (11-17) of would-be base stealers. The switch-hitter is also 10 for his last 20 at the plate, good for a .500 batting average.
