SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse scored a run in each of the first four innings to post a 4-2 victory and snap Indianapolis' five-game winning streak Thursday night at Alliance Bank Stadium.

The Chiefs improve to 16-23 overall and 10-9 at home, while the Indians fall to 24-15 on the season and 12-5 on the road.

Syracuse SS Ray Olmedo (2-for-5, 1 R) led off the opening frame with a triple to center field and scored on 2B Howie Clark's single to right. The Chiefs would follow suite with one run in the second, third and fourth innings.

Indianapolis was held scoreless until the fourth when 3B Russ Johnson (3-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) drove in DH Humberto Cota with a double to right. 2B Nick Green then smacked his first double as an Indian to score Johnson.

The Syracuse bullpen, which was called into duty just three innings into the contest, held Indianapolis scoreless the rest of the way.

Chiefs RHP Ryan Houston (1.2 IP, 2 BB, 2 SO) improved to 1-1 with the win, while RHP Blaine Neal (1.0 IP, 2 SO) worked the ninth for his second save of the season.

Indians RHP John Van Benschoten (4.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO), the IL's reigning Pitcher of the Week, fell to 3-3 with the loss.

RHP Brian Rogers (3.0 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 SO) and RHP Matt Peterson (1.0 IP) combined for four scoreless innings as the Indianapolis bullpen lowered its ERA to 1.79 (6 ER in 33.1 IP) over its past nine games.

DH Curtis Thigpen (4-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI) paced the Syracuse offense with four singles, while Olmedo also collected two hits.

The two clubs return to Alliance Bank Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m., for the final contest of the four-game series. Indianapolis LHP Michael Tejera is scheduled to face Syracuse RHP John Thomson.

The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
