RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Braves swept a doubleheader from the Rochester Red Wings Thursday at The Diamond. The Braves took the opener 2-1 and won the nightcap 4-3. The sweep, the Braves second of the season in two twin bills, gives Richmond a nine and a half game lead in the South Division.

In the opener Richmond took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on an RBI double by Carlos Mendez. In the seventh, with Buddy Carlyle one out away from a complete game shutout, Tommy Oeltjen chased a run home with a single to tie the game. The Braves came right back and won the game in the home half on a walk-off single by Jonathan Schuerholz.

Manny Acosta earned the win. Bobby Korecky took the loss. Doug Clark had three hits for the Braves. Denard Span had two for the Red Wings.

In the second game the Braves tallied twice in the first on a run-scoring single by Graham Koonce and an RBI ground out by Clark. The Red Wings tied the game in the fourth on a two-run homer by Doug Deeds. Richmond went ahead to stay in the fifth on T.J. Bohn's RBI single. He came home on a triple by Yunel Escobar, giving the Braves a 4-2 lead. The Red Wings pushed a run across in the seventh on Matthew LeCroy's sacrifice fly but left the tying run at third.

Rheal Cormier earned the win in relief. Blaine Boyer notched a save. Matt Garza went the distance but took the loss. Alexi Casilla and former Mills Godwin star Matt Moses had two hits each for the Wings.

The Braves and Red Wings close their series Friday at The Diamond at 7 PM. Richmond will send RHP Trey Hodges (1-2, 2.48 ERA) to the mound to battle Rochester RHP Scott Baker (3-2, 3.16 ERA).
