Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons host the Louisville Bats in the first game of a three-game series from Coca-Cola Field (6:05 p.m.). The Bisons have won two straight, earning a four-game split with Norfolk to begin this homestand. At 14-7, the Bisons have the best record in the league.
vs. the Bats
The Bisons were 5-3 against the Bats last season, including a 3-1 series win in Buffalo last April. The Herd has not lost a series to Louisville at Coca-Cola Field since the Bats' four-game sweep in July of 2008. The Bisons' 244 victories over Louisville since 1988 are the most the Herd has against any club in the team's modern era.
Austin Bibens-Dirkx
RHP AUSTIN BIBENS-DIRKX returns to the Bisons tonight to make his third start with the club. The righty was transferred to New Hampshire (AA) on Sunday and made one relief appearance for the Fisher Cats (1.0 IP, 2 BB, SO). In his only start at Coca-Cola Field this season, Bibens-Dirkx allowed one run in five innings of a no-decision, April 19 against Lehigh Valley.
Player of the Month
The International League named INF CHRIS COLABELLO its Player-of-the-Month today for April. Colabello hit .338 and led the IL with five home runs and 16 RBI. He also ranked fifth in slugging pct. (.592) and ninth in on-base pct. (.427). Colabello is the first Bisons player to receive a monthly honor since INF Andy Marte in June of 2006.
Roster Move
The Blue Jays selected the contract of scheduled Bisons starter LHP ANDREW ALBERS today. Toronto optioned LHP DANIEL NORRIS to the Herd after the southpaw was 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA for the Blue Jays. Norris was 3-1 with a 3.18 ERA in five games with the Bisons last year, striking out an impressive 44.7% (38 of 85) of the batters he faced.
Ezequiel Carrera
OF EZEQUIEL CARRERA has 17 hits in his last 38 at-bats, good for a .447 average over his last nine games. Carrera has three straight multi-hit games and leads the Bisons with nine multi-hit efforts this year.
Munenori Kawasaki
INF MUNENORI KAWASAKI has reached base in 13 straight games, the longest active streak in the International League. Since April 16, the infielder has hit .333 (14-42) with four doubles and six walks.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (11-12) were 5-1 winners in Cleveland last night. Former Bisons OF Kevin Pillar drove in two of the five runs while recently-promoted INF Jonathan Diaz walked and plated another run. Toronto takes on the Indians again tonight at 7:10 p.m.
