Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the second game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (6:05 p.m.). The Herd has won three straight games, including last night's 5-1 victory in the series opener. After this weekend, the Bisons take to the road for three in Pawtucket an four in Lehigh Valley.
vs. the IronPigs
The Bisons picked up right where they left off last year with Thursday's 5-1 win. The Herd was 12-4 against Lehigh Valley a season ago and has now won 22 of its last 33 games against the IronPigs dating back to 2013. The Herd holds the 61-51 advantage all time against the I-Pigs.
Randy Wolf
LHP RANDY WOLF threw shutout baseball in his Bisons debut, helping the Herd to its first win of 2015 on Sunday in Rochester. Wolf allowed five hits in five shutout innings while striking out four Red Wings batters. Wolf last pitched for the Phillies Triple-A affiliate in 2001 when he went 0-1 in a pair of rehab starts for Scranton/WB.
Shutdown Staff
With last night's dominate work from RHP SCOTT COPELAND (7.0 IP, 1 R) and RHP PRESTON GUILMET (2.0 IP), the Bisons team ERA dropped below two at 1.99. The mark is good for 2nd in the IL behind only Columbus (1.19). Buffalo led the IL with a 3.52 ERA a season ago.
Andy Burns
INF ANDY BURNS joined the Herd last night with INF RYAN GOINS receiving a promotion to the Jays. Burns was 4th in the Eastern League last season with 52 extra-base hits, leading New Hampshire (AA) with 32 doubles, 15 home runs, 63 RBI and 71 runs scored in 133 games.
Matt Hague
INF MATT HAGUE had two more hits last night, including the team's first home run of 2015. A late 2014 addition to the Herd, the veteran has now hit .355 (27-76) with 11 extra-base hits and a .566 slugging pct. in his first 20 games with the Bisons.
Bisons Bits
OF EZEQUIEL CARRERA has 299 career stolen bases between the Majors and minors, including 86 in the IL over the last two seasons...RHP BOBBY KORECKY has 24 career saves with Buffalo and is only six saves shy of the team's modern era record...In six of the Herd's first seven games this season, the team that has scored first has won.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (5-5) fell to Tampa Bay last night, 4-2. Toronto was held to just four hits, with two coming from rookie INF Devin Travis. The Blue Jays lost three of four to the Rays, and will look to bounce back tonight at home against the Braves with former Bison Drew Hutchison on the mound.
