Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) - For the second night in a row Bryce Brentz drilled a go-ahead home run for Pawtucket, this time a two-out, two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh to help the PawSox to a come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the Rochester Red Wings Friday night in front of 1,955 fans at McCoy Stadium.
Rochester led 4-2 after five innings thanks to Eddie Rosario's grand slam home run against PawSox starter Henry Owens, but for the second consecutive evening Pawtucket finished with a flourish. Brentz's homer (3) came against reliever A.J. Achter (2-1) and hit off the centerfield batter's eye and gave his team a 5-4 lead.
Brentz had hit a walkoff shot in the ninth inning to win game one of the series on Thursday. Sean Coyle homered for the second straight game (3) to add an insurance run in the eighth, and the PawSox bullpen held Rochester scoreless for the final 4.1 innings to cement the victory.
After Blake Swihart lined a two-run single in the first against Red Wings' starter Jason Wheeler, Owens shut out Rochester for the first four innings before running into control problems in the fifth. He walked three straight hitters to pack the bags for Rosario, who lined his grand slam into the bullpen in right (1).
Quintin Berry's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth brought Pawtucket within 4-3, then the Red Wings brought in Achter to pitch the seventh. He quickly retired the first two hitters before Luke Montz patiently worked a walk, setting the stage for Brentz' deep drive to center.
Dalier Hinojosa (1-0) threw two scoreless innings for Pawtucket to earn his first victory of the season, while recently-optioned Tommy Layne struck out the side in the ninth to record his first save of the season.
Game three of the series is scheduled for Saturday afternoon with first pitch at 1:05pm at McCoy Stadium. Left-hander Eddie Rodriguez (0-0, 1.59) is expected to start for the PawSox while the Red Wings counter with righty Mark Hamburger (0-0, 7.71). Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com. Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 12:50 pm.
