TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Gwinnett Braves in the opening game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is coming off its season-long roadtrip with a 5-5 record. Tonight's game is the first of the Herd's modern-era record 16-game homestand. This season, the Bisons are 10-6 at home.
vs. BRAVES: The Bisons are 3-1 against the Gwinnett Braves this season. The two teams met May 7-10 at Coolray Field with all four games being decided by three runs or less. In 2011, Buffalo was 4-4 versus Gwinnett with a 3-1 record at Coca-Cola Field.
HUGE HEFNER: RHP JEREMY HEFNER takes the hill for the seventh time this season. The righty leads Bisons starters and is second in the IL with a 1.77ERA. On May 10, he matched a season-high by throwing 7.2 innings of two-run baseball in a no-decision against Gwinnett. Hefner has gone at least seven innings in all but one of his starts and has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his outings this season.
STREAKIN': OF VINNY ROTTINO singled yesterday to extend his hit streak to 17 games. Since the stretch began on April 18, the outfielder has averaged .328 (22-67) with eight extra-base hits. It is the longest active streak in the International League and only three games shy of a 20-game streak set by Toledo's Brad Eldred earlier this year.
MVP: OF VALENTINO PASCUCCI's home run last night was his 46th as a Bison and broke his tie with former Bison Torey Lovullo for eighth in the team's modern era. Pascucci is now one home run shy of tying Ernie Young for seventh on the modern era list. The homer was his team-high eighth of the season. The slugger also tops all Bisons hitters with 25RBI on the year.
BISONS BITS: OF FRED LEWIS was a homer away from the cycle last night in Charlotte. He went 3-6 with three runs scored. Lewis has averaged .333 (11-33) in his last seven games...Yesterday, the Bisons placed INF ZACH LUTZ on the disabled list with a broken left hamate and activated OF COREY WIMBERLY...The Bisons are 19-1 this year when outhitting their opponent.
METS UPDATE : The Mets' (20-15) won 3-1 over the Milwaukee Brewers last night. Former Bison RHP MIGUEL BATISTA threw seven shutout innings to get the win for New York. INF DANIEL MURPHY had a double and a run batted in. RHP DILLON GEE will pitch for the Mets tonight as they host the Brewers again at 7:10 p.m.
