Indians Stymied by IronPigs in 4-0 Loss

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- For the second time in three games, the Indianapolis offense was shut down as Lehigh Valley, behind starter Tyler Cloyd's six stellar shutout innings, held the Indians to just three hits on Tuesday night in a 4-0 IronPigs win to open a four-game series at Coca-Cola Park.

Cloyd (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K) was outstanding yet again, beating the Indians for the second time in less than a week and earning his fourth win in four Triple-A starts this season. The righty has now gone at least 6.0 innings in each of his starts for Lehigh Valley and has allowed only two earned runs total, posting a 0.69 ERA and recording 21 strikeouts.

All three of the Tribe's hits came off of Cloyd, including leadoff doubles by C Jose Morales, in the third inning, and CF Starling Marte, in the fourth, but Indianapolis managed little else against the IronPigs hurler. In support of Cloyd, RHPs Tyson Brummett (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 K) and Michael Schwimmer (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R) combined for three innings of perfect relief.

LHP Jeff Locke (7.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K) took a second straight loss for the Indians -- also losing to the IronPigs on May 10 in Indianapolis -- and falls to 3-3 on the season. Locke was the victim of an unearned run in the third inning after IronPigs 3B Tim Kennelly reached on an error, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and came around to score on CF Rich Thompson's RBI double to center field.

After another double, this one to 1B Cody Overbeck to lead off the top of the fifth, Kennelly stepped to the plate and launched a two-run home run over the left-center-field fence to give Lehigh Valley a 3-0 lead. It was the Aussie's first home run with the IronPigs in the first Triple-A game of his career. Locke, meanwhile, has now been touched for home runs in back-to-back outings.

Lehigh Valley scored their fourth and final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth. With Indians RHP Tim Wood (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 K) on the mound, Thompson hit flyball to deep right field and cruised into third with a stand-up triple, his second of the season. SS Andres Blanco promptly plated Thompson with a deep sac fly that sent Marte all the way to the warning track while making a nice running catch. Blanco's 13th RBI of the season gave the game its final 4-0 score.

The Indians (22-15) and IronPigs (21-16) return to action on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park in game two of the series with the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. The Tribe is expected to send RHP Daniel Cabrera (1-0, 3.24) to the mound, while Lehigh Valley will likely counter with RHP Scott Elarton (4-1, 2.39).

The game will be carried on WNDE 1260 AM, WNDE.com and via iheartradio, a mobile application for iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones with Howard Kellman and Will Flemming on the call. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
