HATS FOR BATS, KEEP BATS WARM: The Rochester Red Wings tonight return home for an 8-game homestand with the first of 4 against the Louisville Bats (Reds). Following 4 against the Bats, the Wings will welcome the Gwinnett Braves to town for a 4-game series Saturday-Tuesday. Then it's Rochester's 2nd scheduled offday on Wednesday before hitting the road again for 8 more at Gwinnett and Charlotte (White Sox) May 24-31.

a The Red Wings' May 22 game vs. Gwinnett at 11:05 a.m. will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports and simulcast nationally on MLB Network.

a Rochester tonight becomes the final team in the IL to play outside its division. The Wings' first 37 games were against IL North teams. The Red Wings tonight begin a stretch of playing 40 consecutive games against interdivision foes through June 25 before returning to North Division competition at Lehigh Valley (Phillies) June 26-29.

a The Red Wings have played an International League-low 14 home games, yet have played 22 games at home. The other 8 games were against the Empire State Yankees, who are using Frontier Field for 37 home games in 2012 while PNC Field in Moosic, PA undergoes a season-long renovation. In the IL, only Syracuse (Nationals) has played more games at home with 26, including 2 as the "road" team against Empire State.

a The Wings are 7-7 in home games and 11-11 overall at Frontier.

BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER: The Red Wings and Monroe County have proclaimed May as "Baseball Month in Rochester." Frontier Field is hosting games on 25 of the 31 days in the month, as the Empire State Yankees share the downtown ballpark with the Red Wings. Today in Rochester for the Louisville-Red Wings game:

GET RID OF THE SKID: The Red Wings have lost 6 in a row and 7 of their last 8, a stretch that follows a season-high 4-game winning streak. The Wings have also lost 15 of their last 20 games, a stretch that began with a season-worst 8-game losing streak April 25-May 2. Rochester is 9-21 since starting the season 5-2.

a The Red Wings are a season-worst 9 games below .500. Their 6-game skid is the longest active losing streak in the IL.

a The Red Wings are one of 3 teams in the International League that has posted multiple losing streaks of at least 5 games, joining Louisville (5-game losing streaks April 17-21 and May 4-8) and Syracuse (6-game skid April 16-22 (G1) and 5-game skid May 2-6).

HOME SWEET HOME: The Red Wings tonight return home after a 1-7 road trip, their worst record on a trip of 8 games or more since going 1-7 at Buffalo (0-3), Lehigh Valley (1-2), and Scranton Wilkes-Barre (0-3) August 18-25, 2010.

a The Red Wings were swept in a 4-game series at Syracuse, their first against any opponent since August 22-25, 2011 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Rochester was swept in a 4-game at Syracuse for the first time since August 21-24, 2000 at P&C Stadium.

a On the bright side, the Red Wings banged out a season-high 12 hits yesterday at Syracuse with every player in the starting lineup recording at least one hit. Rochester accomplished that feat for the 2nd time, matching their effort from April 10 vs. Buffalo (Mets). Matt Carson, Ray Chang, and J.R. Towles were involved in both hit parades.

ROSTER NEWS: The Red Wings yesterday made 6 player moves, removing 3 and adding 3 from the roster. Infielders Aaron Bates and Joe Thurston were released while first baseman/designated hitter Matt Rizzotti was transferred to Double-A New Britain. In return, outfielder Wilkin Ramirez and right-handed pitcher Lester Oliveros have been transferred from New Britain, while infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka has been reinstated from the 7-Day Disabled List.

a 35 players have appeared in at least one game for the Red Wings, including 20 position players and 15 pitchers. Rochester has also used 9 different starting pitchers. Just 14 of the 25 players on the Opening Day roster are still active with the club. Those on the current roster who have yet to appear in a game are Matt Maloney, Oliveros, and Ramirez.

a Nishioka missed 20 games while on the DL with a sprained right ankle. He sustained the injury April 20 vs. Lehigh Valley while sliding into third base on a triple in the 5th inning.

a Oliveros went 1-1 with 2 saves and a 1.42 ERA in 13 games with New Britain. He tossed 11.2 consecutive scoreless innings over his last 6 appearances. Ramirez started the year at extended spring training. He then played in 4 games with Single-A Fort Myers and made the jump to New Britain, where he batted .388 (19-for-49) with 3 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs, and 7 RBI in 11 games.

LOW FIVE: The Red Wings have scored 5 runs or less in 35 of their 37 games, the lone exceptions being Opening Day at Syracuse (a 7-3 win) and Thursday at Pawtucket (a 7-6 loss). Rochester is last in the IL in runs scored with 107. The Wings have scored 5 or more runs on 7 occasions and are 5-2 in those games.
