TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the first game of a three-game series at Alliance Bank Stadium (6:30 p.m.). The Herd was 4-4 during their eight-game homestand. The Bisons will stay in Syracuse and play two games against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this weekend.
THRUWAY CUP: At 10-6, the Bisons are in first place in the 2012 Thruway Series, one game ahead of the Chiefs (9-7). Buffalo is 5-2 against Syracuse this season, including a 2-1 series win at Alliance Bank Stadium, April 20-22. With five wins against the Chiefs, the Herd has already surpassed their 2011 win total against the divisional rival.
HARVEY : International League All-Star RHP MATT HARVEY takes the mound tonight for his IL-leading 18th start. The righty is coming off maybe his best start of the season, allowing just two hits in seven shutout frames on Friday against Louisville. Harvey struck out nine in that game. With 96 strikeouts, he is just two behind Columbus' Corey Kluber for the league lead.
WELCOME BACK : The Bisons get two players off the disabled list today. OF ADAM LOEWEN returns after missing 61 games since April 21 with a second right metatarsal stress fracture. INF MICHAEL FISHER is also back after missing 12 games with a right shin contusion. INF ZACH LUTZ was taken off the Bisons DL and transferred to St. Lucie (A) to continue his return from a broken left hamate bone. Lutz has missed 48 games.
WINNER: INF JORDANY VALDESPIN supplied the heroics last night as his ninth-inning RBI-single gave Buffalo their fourth walk off win of 2012. He was quickly rewarded with his third big league promotion. To make room, the Mets designed former Bisons LHP JUSTIN HAMPSON for assignment.
BISON BITS: INF COREY WIMBERLY was placed on the disabled list with a right elbow UCL tear. RHP COLLIN MCHUGH struck out 10 batters last night. It's the fifth start by a Bisons pitcher this year with double-digit strikeouts. RHP MATT HARVEY has three of the other four (LHP GARRETT OLSON)...OF FRED LEWIS is tied for 11th in the International League with a .300 batting average.
METS UPDATE : The Mets (44-37) beat the Phillies last night by a score of 11-1. Former Bisons LHP JON NIESE tossed eight innings of one-run ball last night for the Mets. INF DANIEL MURPHY went 4-5 with a double, a triple and four RBI. The Mets face former Bison LHP Cliff Lee and the Phillies this afternoon at 1:00pm.
