Charlotte Knights News Release
(Fort Mill, SC) - The Chicago White Sox have announced that right-handed pitcher Deunte Heath, who was originally scheduled to start tonight's game for the Charlotte Knights, was recalled to Chicago earlier today. Heath posted a 4-2 record with one save and a 1.70 ERA in 22 games (three starts). Heath will replace RHP Jesse Crain, who the White Sox placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 24) with a right posterior shoulder strain.
Heath, 26, is now the eighth Charlotte Knights player this season to go from Charlotte to Chicago. RHP Dylan Axelrod, LHP Eric Stults, LHP Jose Quintana, OF Jordan Danks, RHP Brian Bruney, LHP Leyson Septimo, and RHP Brian Omogrosso are the others.
A member of Chicago's 40-man roster, Heath is being promoted to the Majors for the first time in his career. He spent the entire 2011 season with Charlotte and went 4-7 with a 4.73 ERA in 30 games (16 starts). The Atlanta, GA native was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 19th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.
To take the roster spot of Heath, the White Sox have promoted reliever J.R. Ballinger from Winston-Salem (A) to Charlotte. Ballinger, 24, was 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA in 16 games for Winston-Salem. The right-hander was originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 11th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Southern Mississippi.
