Tonight's Game
The Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings tonight for the finale of a five-game series at Frontier Field (7:05 p.m.). Tomorrow, the Herd returns to Coca-Cola Field for a four-game series against the Durham Bulls that will take the team up to the 2014 All-Star Break.
The Thruway Cup
The Bisons are just a half game out of first place in the 2014 Thruway Cup standings. Syracuse (11-9) maintains a half-game lead on the Herd (12-11) while Rochester (8-11) is 2.5 games off the lead. Unique to this competition, any team that wins the Cup three times gets to retire the Cup as their own. All three teams have won the current cup twice.
Liam Hendriks
RHP LIAM HENDRIKS will make his 14th start for the Herd and first start of the season against Rochester tonight. Hendriks pitched a quality start in his last outing, July 4th in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The IL All-Star threw six innings in a no-decision and allowed two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts. The righty is second in the International League in ERA (2.19) and first in WHIP (0.92)
Roster Moves
C ERIK KRATZ has been recalled by Toronto. The catcher played 13 games for the Bisons since being optioned by the Blue Jays on May 23rd. Kratz hit .348 (16-46) over those games with seven runs, six doubles, two home runs and twelve RBI. He had five multi-hit performances during the stretch.
Mr. DJ!
INF DAN JOHNSON has drawn 78 walks this season, the most of anyone in affiliated ball. The IL All-Star has one more walk than Stockton's 1B Matt Olson (Class A -Oakland) and 26 more than any other IL batter. The Bisons modern era record for walks in a season is 87, set by Valentino Pascucci (2012). The IL home run leader (17) will also compete in the 2014 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby.
Ryan Goins
INF RYAN GOINS earned his 11th multi-hit performance in his last 21 games after going 2-3 in last night's contest. Over the 21 games, Goins has hit .355 with four runs, four doubles, a triple and eight RBI. He leads the Bisons with 24 multi-hit games this season.
