Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY: They rallied, they lost and they got rained on again. The RailRiders lost the opener of a quasi-doubleheader to the Charlotte Knights on Tuesday evening, 11-6. The resumption of Monday's suspended affair was promptly followed by the rain tarp between games. After a lengthy downpour that soaked PNC Field, the scheduled nightcap was postponed. The RailRiders and the Knights will make up the rainout today with a doubleheader starting at 11:35 a.m. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.

SOOO-LARTE...OH, OH!: Yangervis Solarte has delivered multiple hits in each of his three games played with the RailRiders. Since reporting from the Bronx, he has gone 8-for-13 with three extra-base hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for slashes of .615/.643/.923/1.566.

FALLING FROM AHEAD: The five-run loss started with a three-run lead. When the game began on Monday, RBIs from Zoilo Almonte, Kyle Roller and Adonis Garcia staked the RailRiders to a 3-0 advantage in the opening inning. Andy Wilkins tied it with a three-run homer in a five-run second for the visitors while Carlos Sanchez singled in the go-ahead run. But when play resumed, the RailRiders found a way to forge a tie thanks to a wild pitch and run-scoring blows by Solarte and Almonte. The RailRiders had a man thrown out at the plate in the inning (Taylor Dugas), but the Knights batted around against Diego Moreno (1-2) in a four-run eighth. SWB tied its largest lead blown in a loss this season, something now suffered five times, all in the last month. The first such setback came on June 10 in a 10-inning loss to Toledo, 6-3. The team has led in 24 of its 49 losses.

HIGH, FAR, GONE: The Knights lead the IL with 106 homers. They belted three of them in the game to tie for the most round-trippers allowed by the RailRiders in a single game this season. Two of them came against starter Nik Turley.

TURLEY TIME: The southpaw surrendered six runs on eight hits and three walks in 3.2 innings. In three starts he has a 7.94 ERA and his 11 walks in 11.1 innings make for a WHIP of 2.21.

TOUGH TIMES: The RailRiders have lost seven of their last nine. The loss in the suspended game dropped the team to a season-worst seven games below .500. The last-place team entered today a season-worst-tying 12.0 games out of first.

LOOK OUT BELOW: If the RailRiders get swept today, they would fall to nine games below .500. That was the low-water mark for last year's RailRiders. Before 2013, the SWB franchise had not owned a record that poor since the 2005 season. It was last was nine games under .500 at 30-39 after a June 21, 2005 win over Columbus. The then-Red Barons were a Phillies farm club while Columbus housed the Yankees' top minor leaguers at the time. Dave Miley took over as the Yankees' Triple-A manager in 2006 and the affiliation changed to SWB in 2007. Gene Lamont, the 1993 A.L. Manager of the Year with the White Sox, managed SWB in 2005. He is currently the bench coach for the Detroit Tigers.

GAME TWO STARTING PREVIEW: Matt Tracy tosses for a fourth time at the Triple-A level. The former two-way Ole Miss Rebel was a 24th-round pick in 2011. He spent last season at Double-A Trenton (14G/13GS, 4-5, 5.51) before hitting the DL on Aug. 3 (hip), sidelining him for the Thunder's EL title run. He repeated to begin 2014, but has made two spot starts for the RailRiders. He won his Triple-A debut on Sept. 2, 2012 at Pawtucket (5IP, 3H, 1R, 3BB, 4K, 2WP). That was the team's 84th and final win in the regular season's penultimate game

OFF THE RAILS: Last night marked the RailRiders' ninth rainout of the season and their fourth at PNC Field...A team pressed for innings out of its pitching now has back-to-back doubleheaders scheduled today and tomorrow...Through two games on this series, the RailRiders have hit .372/.412/.692/1.104 with 13 extra-base hits among their 29 (five homers)...They also have an 8.50 ERA and a 2.44 WHIP because Charlotte has hit .373/.459/.590/1.050 with 11 extra-base knocks among their 31 (three homers).
