Today's Game
This afternoon, the Bisons face the Pawtucket Red Sox in the final game of their season-opening four-game series at McCoy Stadium (1:05 p.m.). Buffalo needs a win today to split the series. The Herd will travel to Syracuse after the game for a three-game set against the Chiefs. The Bisons' home opener is Thursday against Rochester.
Doubleheader Split
The Bisons and PawSox split yesterday's twinbill, making up their contest that was postponed on Thursday. Buffalo won game one, 3-1, behind nine strikeouts from LHP Scott Diamond and two relievers. Pawtucket rebounded to win game two in walk-off fashion thanks to an RBI-single from Sam Travis in the bottom of the seventh.
vs. Pawtucket (1-2)
The Bisons and Red Sox will meet again next weekend in Buffalo as the PawSox travel to Coca-Cola Field, April 16-17. The Herd does not return to McCoy Stadium until a three-game set, August 5-7. The Bisons were 6-3 in Pawtucket last season, but are just 71-88 (.447) since 1985.
Wade LeBlanc
LHP Wade LeBlanc makes his Bisons' debut this afternoon. Today's outing will also be the southpaw's first in affiliated baseball since ending the 2014 season with the Los Angeles Angels. LeBlanc was 2-5 with a 4.23 ERA in eight starts for the Seibu Lions in Japan's Pacific League last season. He struck out 26 batters in 44.2 innings pitched.
Strikeouts
Bisons pitchers racked up 14 more strikeouts yesterday to only two walks (one of which was intentional). Buffalo's 30 punchouts through their first 21.1 innings rank them tied for 2nd in the International League. Three Herd pitchers fanned 16 in Friday's season opening loss. The staff has only allowed 19 hits for a .235 average against.
Domonic Brown
OF Domonic Brown was a combined 3-7 with a double, a home run and three RBI in yesterday's doubleheader. Brown had 29 extra-base hits in 121 games last season between Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley and a six-game rehab stint with Single-A Clearwater. Brown posted 21 doubles and 27 RBI in his NL All-Star season with the Phillies in 2013.
Bisons Bits
Prior to yesterday's game, the Bisons placed RHP Scott Copeland on the temporarily inactive list...Through three games, the Bisons have yet to attempt a stolen base...1B Casey Kotchman is the only Herd hitter to have reached base in all three games with a .375 (3-8) average and a walk...With his scoreless inning of relief on Friday, RHP Ben Rowen has now tossed shutout relief in 14 of his 15 outings with the Bisons since being claimed by the Blue Jays last season (Cubs).
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (2-4) lost their fourth straight game Saturday with an 8-4 defeat to the Red Sox. RF Jose Bautista accounted for all of Toronto's offense with a pair of two-run home runs.
