Buffalo Bisons News Release

The International League today announced that Bisons LHP Aaron Laffey is their Pitcher-of-the-Week for the period from August 13-19. The southpaw went 2-0 with a 1.93ERA in his two starts.

Laffey returned to the Bisons on August 14 after going 1-1 in a pair of starts with the Cleveland Indians. On Tuesday against Rochester, he struck out eight in eight innings for the victory. He allowed just three runs (two earned) and retired 19 of 20 batters at one point in a 7-3 Bisons win. Then on Sunday, August 19, Laffey allowed just one run in six innings as Buffalo defeated Ottawa, 3-2.

For the week, Laffey posted more strikeouts (13) than hits allowed (12) in 14 innings of work.

Since June 2, Laffey is a perfect 9-0 with a 1.92ERA in 13 games with the Bisons (79.2IP, 63H, 20R, 17ER, 18BB, 69K). He's the first starting pitcher in the Bisons Modern Era to win nine consecutive decisions. He's only the third pitcher to ever accomplish the feat -first since reliever Jack Cressend in 2004.

On the year, Laffey is 9-3 with a 3.08ERA in 16 games with the Bisons. With 5.1 more innings of work, his ERA would qualify as the second-lowest in the International League. His nine wins are tied with Sean Smith for the team lead.

Laffey is the fourth Bisons player to take home an IL weekly award in 2007, joining Smith (May 14-20), Andy Marte (June 4-10) and Jason Cooper (July 30-August 5).
