Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons host the Rochester Red Wings in the second game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.). The Herd struck first with a 7-3 victory in the set opener last night. Buffalo is now 3-4 on their season-long 10-game homestand. On the mound tonight for Buffalo will be LHP Cliff Lee. The southpaw did not earn a decision his last time out, allowing just one run in 3.1 innings on Saturday against Ottawa. Rochester will counter with LHP Dave Gassner.
vs. THE WINGS: Buffalo is 6-3 against Rochester this season with victories in six of the last seven games. As a team, the Herd is hitting .308 with 12 home runs in the nine games against Red Wings' pitching. Ben Francisco (.421, 2RBI) and Ryan Mulhern (.406, 1HR, 7RBI) have led the charge against Buffalo's closest rival.
BE-LEE-VABLE: LHP Cliff Lee has not allowed more than two runs in any of his four starts with the Herd this year. Since being optioned on July 31, Lee has posted a 2.25ERA in three games with twice as many strikeouts (20) than hits allowed (9). In his Bisons career, Lee is 9-4 with a 3.42ERA in 23 starts.
THE CHASE IS ON: Ben Francisco got some help from the Bisons' pitching staff to pull even closer to the league's top spot in batting average. Francisco went 2-4 last night to raise his average to .325. He also benefited from teammate Aaron Laffey, who held Rochester's Jose Morales hitless in three at-bats. Francisco now trails Morales (.328) by only three points.
SEEING 20-20: OF Ben Francisco collected his 20th stolen base last night. With 26 steals in 2006, he just the sixth Bison to record 20+ steals in back-to-back seasons in the Modern Era. Francisco's 46 total steals rank 7th most in the Modern Era.
PULL THE BUS OVER: OF Brian Barton is back on the Bisons active roster. Barton was transferred to Double-A Akron yesterday, but was promoted back to Buffalo today. He did not play last night with the Aeros. Barton has hit .321 (9-28) with one home run and three RBI in eight games with the Herd.
THRUWAY SERIES: The Bisons currently lead the 2007 Thruway Cup Series. Buffalo (14-9) is 3.5 games ahead of second place Rochester (11-13) and 4.0 games up on third place Syracuse (13.16). There are just 10 combined Thruway Cup games left.
