TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons open up a six-game road trip with the first of a four-game series with the Scranton/WB Yankees at PNC Field (7:00 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a 5-3 homestand, picking up a series win against Louisville and a split with Norfolk. LHP Jeremy Sowers will be on the mound this evening for the Bisons. The southpaw is coming off a no-decision last Wednesday against the Bats (4.2IP, 9H, 3ER). Scranton/WB will counter with RHP Matt DeSalvo.
NORTHERN LEADERS: The Bisons have been in first place in the IL North division since May 5 (53 consecutive days). With last night's win, the Herd increased its lead in the division to 1.5 games over second-place Rochester.
ROAD WARRIORS: At 22-16, the Bisons are second in the International League in road wins and road winning percentage (.579). The Herd trails Richmond (25, .641) in both categories. The Bisons pitching staff is almost a full run better on the road (3.83ERA) as opposed to at Dunn Tire Park (4.61ERA).
VS. THE YANKS: The Bisons split a high-scoring four-game series with the Yankees back at Dunn Tire Park, June 5-8. The two teams combined for 53 runs in the four contests. The Herd was led by infielder Ryan Mulhern, who hit .615 (8-13) with four doubles, a home run and four RBI against Scranton/WB pitching.
SWEET AND SOWERS: LHP Jeremy Sowers is in search of his first Bisons victory of 2007. He has a loss and a no-decision with the team after being optioned by Cleveland on June 14. Last season, the southpaw was named the Bisons Most Valuable Pitcher after going 9-1 with a 1.39ERA in 15 starts (97.1IP, 78H, 15ER, 29BB, 54K).
NEW SPOT: Infielder Ryan Mulhern is getting comfortable in his new spot in the lineup. The team's top run producer was inserted as the cleanup hitter last Monday and hit .320 (8-25) with two doubles, a home run and three RBI on the homestand. His .313 season average is now 10th in the IL while .545 slugging percentage is 4th.
LUNA LANDING: Just five days after being hit in the face with a pitch, Hector Luna returned to the lineup yesterday and delivered a clutch three-run double. Luna has hit .339 (21-62) in 18 June games with six doubles and eight RBI.
