Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY-Shortstop Anderson Machado was the only Bats player to have multiple hits as Louisville fell 6-0 to the Richmond Braves on Tuesday night in front of 8,794 at Louisville Slugger Field.
After leaving the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Louisville (40-38) threatened to score in the seventh with runners on the corners, but Richmond (44-32) reliever Jeff Bennett struck out the pinch-hitting Aaron Herr to retire the side.
Louisville center fielder Ryan Freel, on a rehab assignment from the parent Cincinnati Reds, went 1-for-3 with a fourth inning single. Jeff Bannon replaced Freel in the batting order following the seventh inning.
Richmond left fielder Doug Clark hit his fifth home run of the season over the right field fence in the fourth inning. Clark finished his evening 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, while former Bat Corky Miller knocked in two more on his 2-for-4 night with a pair of doubles.
Bats starter Tom Shearn (L, 3-6) lasted five innings and allowed four runs off nine hits.
Braves starter Blaine Boyer (W, 1-0) gave up only three hits in five innings of work. He struck out three batters and walked three more.
In Wednesday's second game of the four-game set, Louisville LHP Bobby Livingston (3-4, 4.00 ERA) will square off against Richmond LHP Jo-Jo Reyes (1-0, 0.75 ERA). Game time is set for 12:05 p.m.
