Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons face the Pawtucket Red Sox in the third game of a four-game set from McCoy Stadium (1:05 p.m.). The series is tied at a game a piece thanks to the Herd's first extra-inning victory of the season on Saturday (10-7 in 11 innings). On the mound for the Bisons will be RHP Brian Slocum, who lost to this Pawtucket team last Sunday at Dunn Tire Park (5.0IP, 5R, 5K). The PawSox will go with LHP Kason Gabbard, who is 2-1 in three starts in 2007.
RED HOT BAT: Franklin Gutierrez has the Bisons longest hit streak of the 2007 season. The outfielder has hit in nine straight heading into today's action with a .395 (17-43) average, three doubles, two home runs, four RBI and 11 runs scored. Seven of the nine games have been multi-hit performances. Gutierrez is currently eighth in the IL with a .353 average.
LUNA TOO: Infielder Hector Luna also has a nice hit streak going. Luna has hit in seven straight, with a .370 (10-27) average. During the stretch, he has collected four doubles, a home run, six RBI and five runs scored. After his 4RBI-game yesterday, Luna has 11 runs driven in on the season (second on the Bisons, Ryan Mulhern, 13).
RUNNING HERD: Two more stolen bases for Buffalo yesterday. The Bisons are second in the International League with 23 steals. Buffalo has only been caught stealing four times for an 85.2% success rate. Ben Francisco leads the Herd with seven steals (T4th in the IL). Nine different players have recorded a theft for the Herd in 2007.
IRON MAN: Outfielder Ben Francisco is the only Bisons player to have appeared in all 17 of the team's games so far this season. He is currently tied for sixth in the league with six doubles and tied for ninth in the IL with 13 runs scored.
LET THERE BE LIGHT: The Bisons are 7-2 in day games this season and only 4-4 in night games.
MARTE RETURNS: Infielder Andy Marte joins the Bisons today on M.L. rehab. Last year, Marte hit .261 with 15 homers and 46RBI in 96 games with Buffalo before his first promotion to Cleveland. In June of '06, he was the Topps/IL Player of the Month with a .304 average, 10 homers and 22RBI in 23 games. He was hitting .179 with one homer and eight RBI with the Tribe in '07.
