Today's Game
Tonight the Bisons start off a quick two-game series in Lehigh Valley after splitting their series with Rochester. With the playoff race heating up, the division rivals will face-off for the last time this season. Next, Buffalo will head home for a three-game weekend set against the Syracuse Mets starting Friday.
Yesterday's Game: BUF 8, ROC 10
The Bisons fell behind early in the top of the first yesterday giving up two runs, but answered right away with four of their own. The high scoring game was led by Michael De La Cruz who finished 1-4 with a double and three RBIs on the day. The Herd were able to get on base drawing nine walks and stringing together ten hits, but were not able to score last. Buffalo rallied back to tie up the game three different times throughout the game but could not bounce back after a two-run home run in the top of the ninth by Alejandro De Aza.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs (6-7)
Buffalo and Lehigh Valley are meeting for the sixth, and final, series of the year for the two teams. The IronPigs took two of the three games in their last series in Buffalo on 7/1-7/3. Buffalo will try to even the season series as they sit 6-7.
Today's Starter
LHP Anthony Kay makes his first start with Buffalo after being packaged in a deal from the Mets to acquire RHP Marcus Stroman (7/28). Kay was the #4 prospect in the Mets organization and started seven games for the Syracuse Mets. He carries a 1-3 record with a 6.61 ERA through 31.1 IP. His last start came on 7/23 against the Indianapolis Indians where he threw 5.2 innings and struck out six while giving up four runs.
Michael De La Cruz
C Michael De La Cruz broke open the Bisons big, four-run first inning with a double which scored two. De La Cruz is showing his impact with a bigger role since the recent call-up of Reese McGuire. He is batting .284 through 95 at-bats and now has 16 RBIs on the season.
Rowdy Tellez
In the last eight games, Rowdy Tellez has been putting it all together and has become a very reliable player in the Bisons offense. He is 12-24 (.500) in the last eight games. Four of those 12 hits have been home runs and Tellez has seven RBIs during that stretch. His on-base percentage has been rising as he has walked 11 times in eight games, as well.
Blue Jays
Toronto (42-67) won their second straight game against Kansas City, this time 9-2. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. led the offense for the Blue Jays as he drove in five runs including a grand slam in the top of the ninth. Sean Reid-Foley notched his first major-league win of 2019 as the Blue Jays have won the series and will go for a sweep today in the final game of the series with first pitch at 1:15 p.m. from Kauffman Stadium.
