Indianapolis Indians News Release

TOLEDO, OHIO - Jake Elmore and Pablo Reyes combined for four hits and four runs batted in to help lead the Indianapolis Indians to a 6-4 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens on Wednesday evening. Eight of the nine Tribe batters collected at least one hit as the club amassed 12 total knocks in the game.

After each team danced around trouble in the first inning, the Indians struck first in the top of the second. Reyes worked a walk with one out and proceeded to steal second base. One out later, Elmore drove him in to put Indy ahead, 1-0.

Indianapolis (55-53) put three more runs on the board in the third. Will Craig and Kevin Kramer opened the frame with singles, Reyes then ripped a double to left-center field to score both runners. Reyes came in to score when Elmore smashed a double of his own into the left-center field gap. The duo's efforts expanded the Tribe's lead to 4-0.

Toledo (48-61) answered back on one swing in the bottom of the fourth. With Dawel Lugo aboard, Mikie Mahtook clubbed a home run off the brick wall underneath the video board in left field to cut the Indy lead in half.

Kramer launched a one-out solo homer to right field in the fifth for Indy, but Jacob Robson produced a run-scoring double in the bottom half of the inning to keep Toledo within a pair. After the Tribe was held scoreless in the top of the sixth, Ronny Rodriguez led off the next half inning with a towering blast to bring the Mud Hens back within one run.

The Indians loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh, but a double play limited the damage to just one run. After the insurance run crossed, Sean Keselica hurled a pair of scoreless innings out of the Tribe's bullpen to bridge the gap to the ninth inning.

Jake Brentz entered the game in the ninth in search of his eighth save. He worked around a one-out walk to stay perfect in save opportunities and seal the 6-4 triumph.

Cam Vieaux (4-2) fanned seven batters over five frames to record the victory. His strikeout total matched his highest output since being promoted to Indy from Double-A Altoona.

Indy and Toledo will conclude their brief two-game set on Thursday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. The Indians return to Victory Field on Friday for a three-game series with the first-place Columbus Clippers.
