Bishop extends hitting streak to 13 in Sunday defeat

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (27-36) were overmatched in their loss to the Round Rock Express (31-33), surrendering at least a run in eight of the nine innings on Sunday.

The River Cats were outhit 12-4, with singles coming from center fielder Braden Bishop, second baseman Peter Maris, and two by catcher Joey Bart.

Bishop extended his hitting streak to 13 with a first-inning lead-off single, and added a stolen base, his fifth of the season. The center fielder is now batting .345.

Right-hander Akeel Morris (1-1) struggled in his first home start for the River Cats, surrendering seven runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out five in 4.0 innings.

Round Rock left fielder Elier Hernandez and catcher Jack Kruger had monster days. The duo both went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs. In three games this series, Hernandez has 11 RBIs.

Additional Notes

Round Rock starter Drew Anderson (4-5) threw eight shutout innings before Scott Engler closed out the victory.

Sacramento LF Joe McCarthy had his 14-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-4 day.
