Montgomery Biscuits News Release
HOOVER, AL - Dale Molenhauer singled home the winning-run in the bottom of the 10th inning, and the Biscuits (19-18) dropped their fourth-straight contest by a final score of 2-1 to the Birmingham Barons (11-26) Monday at Regions Park.
The Barons scored first against Biscuits starter Alex Cobb in the opening frame. Buck Coats led off with a single then moved to second on a sac-bunt. Jim Gallagher would follow with a base-hit to make it 1-0 Barons.
The Biscuits had a chance to tie things in the fifth, but John Matulia was gunned down at the plate trying to score on a two-out single from Drew Anderson.
In the eighth inning, Cody Strait and Anderson started things with back-to-back singles, but Strait was picked off of second for the first out. Emeel Salem and JJ Furmaniak walked, and Nevin Ashley tied things at 1-1 by scoring Anderson with a sacrifice-fly to right field.
Paul Phillips (3-2) came on in the tenth inning, and was greeted by a Greg Paiml double. Paiml would move to third on a wild pitch, and after an intentional walk, scored on Molenhauer's game-winner over the head of Salem in center.
Cobb was excellent for the Biscuits, settling down after the first to scatter six total hits over six innings while striking out five and walking none, allowing just the first-inning run.
Barons starter Jhonny Nunez was equally impressive, tossing five three-hit, scoreless innings. Miguel Socolovich took the win, pitching a one-two-three ninth.
The Biscuit send LHP Alex Torres to the mound on Tuesday night at 7:05 against Birmingham RHP Jacob Rasner.
