Mississippi Braves News Release

Pearl, MS- The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx started off hot tonight vs. Mississippi and never looked back in a 9-1 win. The win was the 6th in a row for West Tenn, who claimed the series vs. Mississippi with two games left to be played. West Tenn starter, Dan Cortes, left with an injury after two innings but the WTN bullpen kept the Braves at bay.

The Diamond Jaxx used the long ball in the 1st inning with back-to-back home runs from Carlos Peguero and Alex Liddi. That made the score 2-0 and the D-Jaxx wouldn't take long to add onto the lead. In the 2nd inning, West Tenn sent nine batters to the plate with four of them scoring. Carlos Peguero, Alex Liddi, Johan Limonta, Luis Oliveros and Luery Bonilla all had base hits to make the score 6-0 after two innings.

Two innings later, the Diamond Jaxx sent eight to the plate, six of which came up after the second out was recorded. Three runs scored thanks to RBI base hits from Johan Limonta and Carlos Triunfuel. This made the score 9-0 and West Tenn had all they needed to earn a "W".

The M-Braves bullpen was solid with shutout innings from Jaye Chapman, Juan Abreu and Ryne Reynoso. In the bottom of the 9th, the Braves saw their first run in 17.2 innings come across the plate. Travis Jones came to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the 9th and smoked a line drive over the left field wall for his 1st home run of the season. The homer kept the Braves from being shut out for the 2nd straight game. Final score, West Tenn 9, Mississippi 1.

Tomorrow at 7:05, the MBraves and D-Jaxx play game four of the series. Mississippi will pitch LHP Scott Diamond (1-3; 5.06) vs. RHP Steve Bray (1-1; 3.74) for West Tenn.
