Montgomery Biscuits News Release

Montgomery -- Biscuits pitching coach Dick Bosman must have been smiling inside all night Monday as Jason Cromer had the second straight quality performance for a Montgomery starter. He went six innings, giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, as he led the Biscuits to a 4-3 win over West Tenn in front of 4,851 at Riverwalk Stadium. The win salvaged a split of the four game series for the Biscuits.

Cromer received early run support as the Biscuits scratched across two runs in the first. Joey Gathright led off the game with a double down the left field line, where he was quickly driven home by a Fernando Cortez single. After stealing second base, Cortez was knocked in by Jose Velazquez, which gave the Biscuits a 2-0 lead. Cortez went 3-for-4 on the night with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Unlike previous games, every time the Diamond Jaxx would score, Montgomery had an answer. After West Tenn plated one run the third and sixth inning, the Biscuits came back with runs in the fifth and sixth to make it a 4-2 game. Josh Parker came into the game in the eighth to record his fourth save of the year, giving up one run in the ninth before shutting the door on the Jaxx.

The Biscuits will now hit the road for an eight game trip. They will take on the Greenville Braves Tuesday night at 6:15 in the first game of a four game set. Montgomery will have it's hands full as the Braves send Major League rehabber Paul Byrd (1-0, 9.00 ERA) to the mound to face the Biscuits Scott Autrey (2-4, 7.64 ERA).
