Mississippi Braves News Release
Atlanta Braves pitcher PAUL BYRD will make his second minor league injury rehabilitation start for Greenville tonight when the Braves play host to the Montgomery Biscuits at 7:15. Byrd, who earned a win in his first appearance with the G-Braves in an 8-5 victory over Jacksonville on May 13th at Municipal Stadium, will be on an approximate 90-pitch limit. The righthander was added to Greenville's roster on May 13th and is eligible to come off the major league disabled list on June 3rd.
In his first outing with the G-Braves, Byrd allowed five runs on six hits over five innings. All five Jacksonville tallies came in the first inning.
Byrd was signed by Atlanta as a major league free agent in December, 2002. He has yet to pitch a major league inning for Atlanta. Last season, after one rehab start with Greenville in April, he underwent "Tommy John" elbow surgery. Byrd's last full major league campaign came in 2002 at Kansas City, when he went 17-11 with a 3.90 ERA. He has pitched portions of eight seasons in the major leagues with the Mets, Braves, Phillies and Royals.
The Greenville Braves open an eight-game homestand tonight at Municipal Stadium. For ticket and promotional information, fans may call 864-294-5507 or visit the club's official website at www.gbraves.com .
