Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (3-11) lost another tough game to the Tennessee Smokies (7-6) on Thursday night, falling to their North Division rivals for a fourth-straight game by a score of 5-1 on a blustery evening at Riverwalk Stadium.

Eduar Lopez, who was pitching on short rest, got the start for the Butter and Blue and looked good in limited action, tossing three scoreless and hitless innings, fanning two and walking just one in a no-decision.

Oscar De La Cruz (1-2) dominated Biscuits hitters on the other side for the Smokies, as the 23-year old tossed six shutout innings, surrendering just one hit-a Danny De La Calle single in the third-to go along with six strikeouts and one walk in his first Double-A victory.

The game remained scoreless entering the fourth, when Yasiel Balaguert stroked an RBI-single off Biscuit reliever Reece Karalus (0-1) to make it 1-0 Smokies. In the fifth, back-to-back two-out doubles by Jeffrey Baez and Zack Short doubled that lead off Montgomery lefty Matt Krook. A Baez RBI-single in the seventh then pushed the Tennessee advantage to 3-0.

The Biscuits would finally scratch across a run in the eighth inning against Preston Morrison, courtesy of a two-out single into right field off the bat of Nick Solak to make it 3-1. But an Erick Castillo two-run blast in the ninth off Austin Wright put the game out of reach, as Montgomery lost for the fourth-straight night.

Montgomery will try to avoid the sweep on Friday night when Benton Moss (0-1) gets the ball against Michael Rucker (1-0) at 6:35 PM.
