Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- A late rally by the Biscuits (12-10) in the ninth wasn't enough as the Barons (9-14) won 10-6 Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Hunter Wood (1-2) had his worst start of the season going just 4.2 IP surrendering seven runs on nine hits and allowing five of his seven earned runs through the first three innings en route to his second loss of the year ending the Biscuits incredible streak in which no starting pitcher had allowed more than three earned runs through the first 21 games.
Birmingham pulled away from the Biscuits in the top half of the third thanks to a two-run shot to left by Nick Basto and Keon Barnum who knocked in his fourth home run of the season to help give the Barons a 5-0 lead after three. The Barons tapped across three more insurance runs with a Brett Austin two-run shot to right center the third of the game that put the game out of reach for good.
Adams was outstanding allowing just one run on eight hits and recording eight strikeouts en route to his first win of the season.
Montgomery had a late surge in the bottom half of the ninth bringing across five runs thanks to a two-run double to left from Michael Russell as well as Justin O'Conner, Joe McCarthy, and Alec Sole who all had RBI-singles, but their late game magic would end on an Andrew Velazquez ground out to third giving the Barons a 2-1 series lead.
Game four of this matchup begins Sunday afternoon when right-hander Jose Mujica (0-1) takes the mound against righty Michael Kopech (1-1) at 2:05 PM.
