PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves (11-12) lost game three of a five game series 6-3 to the Tennessee Smokies (13-10) Saturday night despite getting a quality start from right-hander Matt Withrow in front of 4,023 fans at Trustmark Park.

Withrow (1-0) did not factor in the decision, giving up two runs on three hits in his five innings of work to go along with one walk and three strikeouts. The two runs came on two solo home runs for the Smokies in the second and fifth innings, the third and fourth given up by Withrow in just five starts.

The Smokies again got on the board first in this ballgame, as Jason Vosler hit his fifth long ball of the year into the wind in right field. The only other run the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs scored on Withrow came in the fifth on Erick Castillo's first home run of the season, a high fly ball that sat up in the 14 mph winds whipping out to left field and carried all the way over the M-Braves bullpen to cut the lead to 3-2.

Mississippi answered the solo shot in the second with one of their own, as Kade Scivique picked up his first bomb of the year on a laser down the left field line that stayed fair by a few feet to tie the game at one apiece. In the third, the Braves tacked on two more runs with an RBI double by Travis Demeritte and an RBI-single by Carlos Franco. It was the last threat the M-Braves would muster, as three Smokies relief pitchers combined to shutout the home team on only two singles the rest of the way.

Right-hander Duane Underwood (1-1) got the start for Tennessee and left after five complete innings with a one-run deficit. Underwood struck out five and gave up three earned runs on seven hits. James Pugliese (2-1) worked one inning of relief for the win and gave way to Andury Acevedo and Stephen Perakslis (S, 1) to finish the last three innings of the game.

The M-Braves were led by Kade Scivique and Jared James at the plate, each with two hits. Franco and Demeritte also added a hit and RBI each.

Philip Pfiefer (0-1) took the loss in 1.2 innings of work out of the bullpen. Pfiefer was cruising along with five straight outs before giving up two singles and two walks in the seventh, all with two out. Bradley Roney came in with the bases loaded and the game tied, and gave up a three-run triple to Jacob Hannemann that would be the last runs of the game, all charged to Pfiefer.
