MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Just a day after scoring 10 in a victory on Saturday night, the Barons bats were limited to just one run on seven hits in Sunday's 5-1 loss to Montgomery.

Biscuits starter Jose Mujica navigated his way through seven innings, while only surrendering five hits and one earned run. The righty worked around a Keon Barnum solo home run in the fourth inning to turn in a quality start and move to 1-1 on the season.

With original Barons starter Michael Kopech scratched, Jake Dunning was forced into a spot start for Birmingham on Sunday. The Biscuits jumped on Dunning in the first inning as Joe McCarthy's RBI double scored Colby Rasmus.

Playing in Montgomery on an MLB rehab, Rasmus extended the Biscuits' lead to 2-0 in the third inning and he clobbered an opposite field solo home run. Nick Ciuffo then joined Rasmus in homering, as he hit the batters eye in center field with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth to give the Biscuits their two run cushion back.

Mujica would depart after seven leading 4-1. Jose Alvarado and Diego Castillo combined to lock down the final two innings out of the bullpen, and got some help in the eighth inning as Michael Russell doubled in Grant Kay to give the Biscuits a 5-1 lead.

Dunning took the loss for the Barons to drop to 0-1 on the season, while Mujica moves to 1-1 with the victory.

The Barons will be back in action on Monday morning at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery to conclude the five game series. First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 a.m. CT and RHP Thaddius Lowry will be on the mound for the Barons, while Tyler Brashers gets the start for the Biscuits. Curt Bloom will bring you all the action on the iHeart Radio app, beginning with the Coca-Cola Pregame Show beginning at 10:25 a.m. CT.
