Jackson takes 2-1 series lead in front of season-best crowd of 4,896

Jackson, Tenn. - Slugging first baseman Kevin Cron homered for the first time in 20 days, and the Jackson Generals brought home a 7-4 victory over Chattanooga to 4,896 fans on Saturday night. Cron's seven total bases paced the Generals' offense, with Jackson (15-7) scoring their seventh victory at home in front of a season-high crowd of 4,896 fans.

For the second straight night, the Generals compiled a double-digit hit total, with a dozen hits keying three multi-run innings. Jackson scored two off starter Chattanooga Kohl Stewart in the third, adding five more against reliever Matt Tracy (1-2, 3.32 ERA) to take a five-run lead into the eighth inning. Gabriel Moya (Sv, 4) saved his fourth game with a clean ninth inning to preserve a win for Josh Taylor (3-1, 2.42 ERA).

The Lookouts (10-13) initiated the scoring in their first at-bat, as Taylor allowed three consecutive hits and a sacrifice fly to open the game. Taylor steadied himself thereafter, retiring the fifth and six batters to finish the inning down 2-0. The Generals were held off the scoreboard until the third inning, when Colin Walsh's one-out walk greased the skids for a fruitful frame. Travis Denker followed with a double to move Walsh to third, and Victor Reyes grounded out to second base to score Walsh from third. With Cron at the plate, a wild pitch by Chattanooga's Stewart allowed Denker to score, tying the game at two.

In the fifth, Reyes reached base on a fielder's choice with one out, and Cron doubled for the first time in 2017, putting runners at second and third base. Rudy Flores singled Reyes home from third base to break the 2-2 stalemate, and Oscar Hernandez lifted a flyout deep enough to left field to score Cron from third, giving Jackson a two-run lead.

Cron would pad the Generals' lead in the sixth with a 391-foot solo shot off Tracy, his fifth long-ball of the year. After a pair of two-out walks later in the frame, Jamie Westbrook brought both runners home with a double to give the Generals a 7-2 advantage. Chattanooga augmented with a two-run single from left fielder LaMonte Wade in the eighth, but the visitors came no closer.

Taylor worked through the sixth inning for the first time in 2017, finishing with five strikeouts and a single walk. Daniel Gibson relieved him, earning a two-inning hold with two unearned runs allowed. Moya struck out a pair in the ninth.

The Generals will vie for the series win in Sunday's 2:05 pm CT clash. Right-hander Brooks Hall (1-0, 5.06 ERA) will deal for the home side, facing Chattanooga right-hander Fernando Romero (1-3, 3.44 ERA).

The series wraps up with an Education Day, May 1! For the 11:05 am CT first pitch, students get in free with their class, and lunch packs will be available for just $6!
