Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala.. - The Biscuits (4-3) found themselves on the wrong side of a Friday night thriller, losing 3-2 in 10 innings to the Smokies (4-3) to go 2-2 in the series.
The Smokies got on board with the quickness after an RBI-double from first baseman Bryce Ball in the first. Then outfielder Darius Hill cracked a line drive to center to bring in Luis Vasquez and another run for the Smokies in the second inning with an RBI-single to make it 2-0 Tennessee.
Biscuits first baseman Evan Edwards added some life and excitement to the crowd when he bombed a two-out, two-run homer over the center field wall to tie the game at two in the bottom of the third.
After a single by catcher Blake Hunt, Brett Wisely was thrown out at the plate to retire the side and keep the score tied at two in the bottom of the 6th.
After a pitching change in the fourth, relief pitcher Michael Costanzo did his part with keeping the Smokies off the bases going three-up, three-down to start the fifth inning. He continued prominent pitching as he only allowed one hit until relief pitcher Trevor Brigden came in to replace him in the top of the eighth.
The Biscuits bullpen was superb as Brigden was one strike short of an immaculate inning in the ninth. Brigden recorded six strikeouts in his three innings pitched.
With Hunt on third and two outs in the bottom of the ninth Edwards struck out looking to end the ninth and sent the Biscuits to their first extra-inning game of the season.
Smokies catcher Bryce Windham popped a sac fly where Delvin Zinn scored on a controversial close call at the plate where the Smokies took the lead 3-2. With Edwards as the ghost man on second and two outs, Wisely struck out looking to end the game.
The Biscuits will look to break the tie when LHP Ian Seymour (0-1, 19.29) squares off against RHP Riley Thompson (0-0, 6.00) for The Nine Night & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, April 16 at 6:05 PM.
The series will conclude with an Easter Egg Hunt with Bark in the Park on Sunday, April 17.
